I am Karen, I Iive near Calgary, Alberta, Canada. I am a wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, friend and RN. I love to spend time with my family and friends, go for coffee, hike, snowshoe, travel, decorate my house, play scrabble... but just for me, I run.I started running on June 4, 1997 and since that date I have participated in 7 marathons, about 17 half marathons, and numerous 5 and 10 k's. I am always trying to challenge myself with running and on October 18, 2011 I thought that I should see how many days in a row I could run... that journey continues and so I decided to blog about it.
Powderface Trail/Prairie Creek Trail, Kananaskis, Alberta. Gorgeous trail … In love with hiking! Went a bit longer than expected. 18.5 km, 875 meters elevation, 5.5 hours including a lovely lunch. Getting Camino and West Coast Trail ready.
Another spring day in Alberta. This is Chester Lake in Peter Lougheed Provincial Park, Kananaskis. It is amazing! I usually snowshoe it but this time we hiked it. Just over 9 km return. 300m of evaluation for the first half, then easy sailing the second half. A must do.
Hiking in Kananaskis, Alberta! Perfection. 14.5 km loop with about 600m elevation. Great spring hike with just a few icy spots. Carrying 18 pounds to get my training started.
And I am trying to get back to blogging … Oh how I wish it came easily to me. I’m still on my running streak, who knew I could keep at it? Day 1263 … 6187 km’s
My next challenge is the Camino Portuguese beginning May 28th with my daughter Katie! I hope to keep running during the pilgrimage. I am in the process of preparing my backpack and keeping it to about 12-15 pounds - I will post some packing pics too.
After the Camino I hope to hike the West Coast Trail in August. That is where my running streak will prove to be interesting.
If you are planning a Camino and have tips or questions please ask!
